Welfare Guardians Canterbury is a registered charity governed by a Trust Board who bring various fields of expertise in social work, aged care representation, Family Court processes and health and disability issues.
Our Vision:
Everyone in need has access to a competent and compassionate Welfare Guardian
Our Mission:
Supporting those in need, who have no-one else available, by:
- Recruiting and training volunteers to become legally appointed Welfare Guardians
- Mentoring and supporting volunteer Welfare Guardians
- Educating and promoting understanding of the role and purpose of Welfare Guardians
Our Guiding Values:
- Dignity - we value and respect each other, and our subject people, for their own sake.
- Sustainable and committed - we focus on meeting present needs without compromising the ability to provide future services.
- Person-centric - our subject people are at the centre of our services.
- Manaakitanga - we provide hospitality, kindness, respect, generosity, and care for others without expecting anything in return.
- Transparent and accountable - we are open, clear, and complete in our communications. We are responsible and can provide sound reasoning for our actions.
Since we were founded in 2018 we have grown quietly, providing volunteer Welfare Guardians in Canterbury for people who have no one else. We have survived through the generosity of a small community who understand the need.
We invite anyone interested to become involved, including organisations and businesses.
